ABOUT
As We Walk This Earth is a photography essay written and produced by Cherise Lesesne, a writer based in New York with a column that discusses issues about race, gender, cultural and social identity. The essay captures the theory of redefining the language we use to describe race.
If we evolved the language we use to discuss race by grouping together similar skin complexions as gradients of brown and as earth tones, would we begin to see each other on a horizontal spectrum of one single human race? Already, there is a federal initiative to redefine the way we categorize race. This photo essay conceptualizes an alternative method to invite others to begin thinking about how they can contribute to the national dialogue to make sure we are making a productive step forward.
You can tune into and propose your own solution for how we should reclassify race at the federal level by following the initial proposals, listening into the working groups, or schedule a listening session to offer your perspective by sending a brief email expressing interest to Statistical_Directives@omb.eop.gov.
